Paintings follows Lars Elling, the young Norwegian artist, through the first 15 years of his career. Many credit his success both in Norway and in New York to the seriousness--the absence of irony--with which he approaches a well-established art form, but the reproductions here make the case that it is also due to the poetic and inviting nature of his paintings. This is art that commits itself to communicating with viewers on a common ground. In an interview here, Elling is uncommonly articulate in explaining both his technique and his way of thinking about his work. With an essay by the noted poet and art critic David Shapiro, who has taught at Columbia, Princeton and Bard, and written texts for monographs on Jasper Johns, Jim Dine and Mondrian.

Uncorporate Identity is an anthology of Metahaven projects, ideas and models. A science fiction book about design, it describes corporate identity beyond certainty, entwined with politics, speculation and information networks. Carved out from the multipolar geopolitical spaces of the early 21st century and the paradoxical leftovers and peripheries of ancient regimes and ruined ideologies, Uncorporate Identity is at once an artistic manifesto for design under globalization and a workbook of essays, narratives and truisms investigating the ambiguous state of identity and branding today. Authored by Metahaven, a design and research think tank consisting of Daniel van der Velden, Vinca Kruk and Gon Zifroni, Uncorporate Identity is edited by Marina Vishmidt and includes contributions by and collaborations with Armin Linke, Dieter Lesage, Chantal Mouffe, Peter van Ham, Regula St?mpfli, Michael Taussig, BAVO, Mihnea Mircan, Ruedi Baur, David Reinfurt, Adriaan Mellegers, Tina Clausmeyer and many others.
